Welcome!

Welcome to the website for St Mellitus Church, Hanwell.

You'll find some background to the people, purpose and place of this worshipping community in the heart of Hanwell in West London.

There are details of when services are held and what to expect by way of format and content.

But of course the best way to get a feel for us is to join us at any of our regular services or other events.

You'll receive a warm welcome and I hope to be able to greet you personally!

STMellitusHanwellSt Mellitus: the Anglican Parish Church for the heart of Hanwell, London W7

St Mellitus Church has been at the heart of Hanwell for 100 years.

Since 1910, the church has sought to be a worshipping community with the aim of "serving Christ in the heart of Hanwell and beyond".

We meet for regular services on Sundays and Wednesdays and the church is also open for prayer at midday every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You'll find a warm welcome at any of these - click here to get a feel for what to expect.

The church garden has recently been extensively renovated to provide a small oasis of calm in the hubbub of Hanwell town centre and the church itself is also frequently open for people to sit and enjoy the peaceful surroudings.

We are very excited to be one of the seven churches in the Ealing Churches Winter Night Shelter initiative, offering a meal and a bed to local homeless people in our church hall.

The church is named after St Mellitus (pronounced Mell-eye-tuss) who was the first Bishop of London in 604AD. There's more about St Mellitus in our church history or in the sermon preached at our church by the current Bishop of London, Rt Rev & Rt Hon Dr Richard Chartres when we celebrated the 1400th anniversary of Mellitus in 2004.

Of course what's most important is that we carry on being as relevant today as when the doors were first opened a hundred years ago: that we continue to obey Jesus' lasting instruction to make disciples - people commited to learning from and serving him.

To that end we have a wide range of activities outside of regular services: from social events, Brownies and an alpha course to name just a few. Details of these on the following pages.

How to find us Google Map of W7

We're on the corner of Church Road and Uxbridge Road, opposite the Shell Garage on Church Road. The E3 bus stops right outside on Church Road, and buses 83, 207, 607 and E10 all stop on Uxbridge Road.

There are reasonable amounts of on-street parking available nearby but only a very limited car park at church.
