Expect a warm welcome and a rich blend of traditional and contemporary styles
Sundays
Our main Sunday service is a 10:00am Parish Communion service and lasts for about an hour and a quarter. It combines traditional elements (liturgy, robed choir and hymns) with more contemporary elements (such as the worship band that leads some of the music). In term time there is also a full range of activities for school-age children which we call Allsorts.
The service usually follows the typical Church of England pattern: we start with a gathering hymn and after prayers of confession we sing again of God's glory. There are Bible readings before a 15-20 minute sermon. Allsorts happens at this point (and you can read and listen to previous sermons here) followed by prayers for the world. We then share the bread and wine of communion - all who know and love Jesus as saviour are invited to join this; those on a journey of discovery as welcome to come forward to receive a blessing or simply remain seated to enjoy the songs of worship during this part. After a final hymn or song there's always the chance to talk over coffee - frequently accompanied by some fine homemade cake!
Earlier on Sundays we meet to pray at 8:30am in the prayer area at the back of church.
Occasionally we vary the pattern slightly with a service of "all-age" worship where things are slightly more broken up and we aim to include everyone from toddler to teetering grandparents in all elements of the service - dates for these are shown in the calendar. These services don't include communion so on these days we have a short communion service at 8:30am, followed by breakfast.
